🔵 🔴 🟡 Course description

🇬🇧 [The course is taught and examined in English] 🇬🇧

A brief introduction to the history of Ireland, its culture and theatre, is followed by an approach to important Irish playwrights and their selected, representative plays. Each play is approached in the socio-political context of its time, both as a dramaturgy and as a performative event, and an attempt is made to assess its place in contemporary theatrical events in Ireland, but also internationally. In addition to familiarizing students with English-speaking Irish theater, the aim of the course is also to improve their language skills in English. Their active participation is desirable through interaction and oral presentations, as well as written commentary on multimedia material that is part of the course.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • recognize some basic features of contemporary Irish works.

  • distinguish the relationship between the theme of the works and their time

  • compose an overall critical presentation of the particulars. characteristics of the work of a writer or theatrical group.

  • combine criticism of the artistic interpretation of some theatrical roles with their own interpretive gaze.

  • organize the production and presentation of selected scenes of a play
